Description
Care & Maintenance:
- Lighting: Glosso requires medium to high lighting to grow well and maintain its compact, carpet-like appearance. Low light can cause the plant to grow vertically and become thin.
- CO2 Requirement: CO2 injection is crucial for Glosso’s healthy growth. Without sufficient CO2, it may not grow properly and can display signs of nutrient deficiencies, such as yellowing leaves and weak stems.
- Temperature & pH: Glosso thrives in a temperature range of 72° – 82° F (22° – 28° C) and a pH between 6.0 and 7.5.
- Growth Rate: With proper care, Glosso can grow moderately to quickly, covering the substrate with its vibrant green carpet.
- Care Level: Glosso is medium to difficult in terms of care. While it grows well with sufficient lighting, CO2, and nutrients, it can be tricky to plant and maintain, making it more suitable for experienced aquarists.
Propagation:
Glosso can be propagated by cutting new growth along with the roots and replanting it in the substrate. This method allows the plant to spread and form a dense carpet over time.
Tank Placement & Ideal Conditions:
- Height: 1-2 inches (2.5 – 5 cm)
- Tank Placement: Glosso is best placed in the foreground of your aquarium to create a carpet-like effect.
- Substrate: The plant has small roots and can be challenging to plant directly into the substrate. Using a dry start method (emerged growth before flooding) can help the roots anchor before submerging the tank.
- Nutrients: To keep the plant healthy and green, ensure adequate nutrients through a quality substrate and regular water column fertilization.
