Description
Appearance
- Color: Bright yellow body with contrasting blue eyes.
- Fins: The dorsal and tail fins have a distinct white seam.
- Size: Typically grows up to 4-5 inches (10-13 cm).
Habitat
- Origin: Native to the warm, acidic waters of the Rio Orinoco and its tributaries in Colombia.
- Tank Setup: Prefers aquariums replicating riverine conditions with flowing water systems. Ideal settings include substrates of sand or fine gravel, combined with driftwood and rock formations for refuge.
Behavior
- Temperament: Generally peaceful and can be kept with other non-aggressive species. However, males may be territorial with other males of their species.
- Activity: Primarily nocturnal, but will often become active during daytime hours once established in an aquarium.
Care Requirements
- Water Parameters: Prefers temperatures between 75-82°F (24-28°C), a pH of 6.0-7.5, and soft to moderately hard water.
- Tank Size: A tank of at least 20 gallons is recommended
- Diet: Omnivorous, feeding on algae, vegetables, and high-quality sinking pellets. They may also enjoy occasional treats like bloodworms or brine shrimp
