Description
Physical Characteristics
- Size: They can grow up to 15 cm (6 inches).
- Appearance: They have elongated bodies with a pointed head and are typically golden in color
Habitat and Tank Requirements
- Distribution: They are found in the Irrawaddy river system to Tenasserim, Myanmar.
- Tank Size: A spacious tank is necessary, with a minimum of 50 gallons (190 liters) recommended.
- Water Parameters:
- Temperature: 24-28°C (75-82°F)
- pH: Neutral (around 7)
- Water Flow: They prefer clean, well-filtered water with ample swimming space.
- Tank Setup: They need a mature tank with dim lighting and plenty of open swimming space. Adding tall pieces of driftwood and robust plants can create shady areas for them to retreat to
Diet and Feeding
- Diet: In the wild, they feed on insects, small fish, and crustaceans. In captivity, they readily accept a varied diet of dried and frozen meaty foods
- Feeding Behavior: They are known for their ability to shoot water at prey up to 3 meters (10 feet) above the water’s surface.
Behavior and Compatibility
- Temperament: They can be territorial, especially as they age. It’s best to keep them singly or in groups to avoid conflicts
