Description
Physical Characteristics
- Size: They typically grow to 3-4 inches (7.5-10 cm) in length.
- Appearance: They have a slender, elongated body with a base color ranging from light pink to yellow, and 10-15 dark brown or black stripes running along their body. Their dorsal fin is located further back on their body, closer to the tail.
Habitat Requirements

- Aquarium Setup: They prefer a tank with sandy substrate, plenty of hiding places among plants and decorations, subdued lighting, and good water quality. They thrive in slow-moving waters with a gentle current.
Behavior and Diet
- Behavior: They are peaceful and bottom-dwellers, often hiding among plants and decorations. They are more sociable in groups of 5 or more and coexist well with other peaceful fish.
- Diet: They are omnivores and will eat a variety of foods, including commercial fish flakes, high-protein fare, and small live or frozen foods. They should be fed once a day, adhering to the three-minute rule.
Compatibility
- Tank Mates: They can be kept with other peaceful fish of similar size, such as tetras, danios, rasboras, and gouramis.
- Social Behavior: They are generally peaceful towards their own species and other non-aggressive fish.
