Description
Appearance & Behavior
- Size: They grow to about 1.8–2.2 inches (4.5–5.5 cm).
- Color: Males are typically brownish-grey, while females are bright green with red stripes.
- Behavior: They are shy and timid, often hiding among plants and decorations.
Habitat & Tank Requirements
- Tank Size: A minimum of 20–30 gallons is recommended.
- Water Conditions: They prefer acidic water with a pH level between 4.0 and 5.0, and temperatures around 75–80°F (24–27°C).
- Lighting: Dim lighting is preferred to mimic their natural habitat.
- Setup: Include plenty of natural foliage and hiding spots.
Diet
- Diet: They are omnivores but prefer a carnivorous diet. Live foods like mosquito larvae, brine shrimp, and bloodworms are ideal
- Feeding: They may be picky eaters and might not readily accept dry food
